Cycling

A lot of the Canals towpaths have been paved to a high enough standard to make them very pleasant to cycle on – or rollerblade! In fact, some of them even make for very effective, traffic-free shortcuts. Taking the bike is one of the best ways to see the different stretches of the canal as you will obviously cover more ground than on foot.

If you are cycling along the Canal, just be aware that you do not have right-of-way over Pedestrians, so be sure to extend them every courtesy. And at certain points along the paths you will see signs telling you to dismount – these are at points where the path is very narrow and close to the waters edge. Dismounting at these points is for your own safety, so please heed the signs.
